EKAT founder, Ekaterina Malysheva, was born in Russia and raised predominantly in the Czech Republic. She developed an eclectic taste whilst studying at the International School in Prague where she observed the cultures of friends with different backgrounds and decided to move to London at the age of 19 to continue her studies at LCF.
Katya found a passion in creating socio/political documentaries, two of which were nominated for the 2014 Oscars and went on to win 3 Emmy’s. Her study of female empowerment finds homage in the EKAT prints, which represent individuality and infinite possibilities.
Katya founded EKAT in the summer of 2013, after a life-changing trip to Burning Man Festival, a festival fuelled by solidarity, art, independence and free spirits. She was keen to start a movement with her fun, colourful EKATsuits. On her return to London, Kat began designing her prints that are influenced by her muse; a woman who is empowered, a freethinker who is confident, ambitious and inspired, but not lead, by fashion. The Katsuit is a perfect amalgamation of all of this.
Katya herself has never been a follower of trends; she grew up in contrasting surroundings, a keen traveller, who loves meeting remarkable people and experiencing culturally abundant places. Her experiences proved that fashion was a boundless, exciting way of expressing oneself
EKAT’s second collection is inspired by female empowerment, architecture, and elements from different places that Katya has visited or would love to visit. Glow in the dark elements have been added to the stand out prints.
Names of the 10 signature prints include Nairobi, Mumbai, Kashmir and Zanzibar. Two new cuts are added to the collection this season.
